Alexander B. Duda, Sr., 89, of Belle Vernon, died at his home Tuesday, December 15, 2015. Born in Donora on September 21, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Julia (Witek) Duda.
Alex was retired from the Construction Labor Union Local 373. He was a member of the former St. Mary's Polish Church in Donora and the Donora Polish Falcons Nest 247. He was an avid bowler and golfer and loved hunting. He served with the U. S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class in the Atlantic-Pacific Theater during World War II.
He is survived by his sons, Alex G. (Gaynelle) Duda of Lancaster and Mitchell W. (Patti Jo) Duda Sr. of Greene County; four grandchildren, Mitchell W. (Lori) Duda Jr. of Rostraver Twp., Rhiannon Storie of Waynesburg, Douglas Montgomery of New Hampshire and Gregory Montgomery of Lancaster; four great grandchildren, Harley, Meghan, Alexa and Olivia; sister, Genievieve Tomasiak of Donora.
In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Faye A. Duda on November 7, 1993; and by five brothers and one sister.
Friends will be received on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Blessing Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. with with Rev. Vincent J. Gigliotti officiating, followed by full Military Honors. Private interment will be in West Newton Cemetery.
