Dr. Regis Serinko, Sr.

Dr. Regis J. Serinko, Sr., 93 , of Rostraver Township, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 in the Crawford House in McKeesport. Born in Perryopolis on April 15, 1922, he was the son of the late Peter and Anna (Hudock) Serinko.
Dr. Serinko was a graduate of St. Vincent College, received his Masters degree from West Virginia University and his Doctorate degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He taught at Peabody High School in Pittsburgh and numerous other schools in the area. Dr. Serinko was a retired professor from California University of Pennsylvania, where he instituted the curriculum for Mortuary Science, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. While teaching at California University of Pennsylvania, he was honored with the Distinguished Faculty Award, was the Academic Vice President Provost for many years and was President of the Faculty Union. After retirement, he was honored with the Emeritus Faculty Award. He had numerous publications and was commissioned by several past presidents of the university to write the history of the university. He also wrote a history of the Veterans of Rostraver Township, in addition to the 50th Anniversary of the Church of St. Anne. He was the Chairman of the Rostraver Township Sewage Authority in which he oversaw the first sewage lines in Rostraver Township and was Chairman of the Rostraver Township Veterans Memorial Park Association in which he was active in fundraising and the construction of the Veterans Memorial. He was a member of the Church of St. Anne in Rostraver Township, where he was active in the Holy Name Society and served in the U.S. Army in India during World War II and achieved the rank of Master Sergeant.
He is survived by his wife, Angeline (Bruno) Serinko; son, Dr. Regis J. Serinko Jr. of Bellefonte; sister, Dolores Serinko of Perryopolis; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by and infant daughter, Regina; and a brother, Albert Serinko.
Friends will be received on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Blessing Service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m.in the Church of St. Anne with Rev. Vincent J. Gigliotti and Rev. Ronald L. Simboli presiding. Following Military honors at the church, private entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Rostraver Veterans Memorial, the Rostraver Food Bank or Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh.
