Emily J. Backstrom, 92, of West Newton, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020. Born in West Newton on April 23, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jemima (Murray) Steadman.
Emily was a switchboard operator and worked for Bell Telephone, Westinghouse in Large, Westinghouse at Waltz Mill and also Frick Hospital. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in West Newton. She always enjoyed going to the family camp near Whipkey Dam.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula (Alexander) Ustazewski of Irwin and Lana (Raymond) Baker of West Newton; grandchildren, Paul (Danielle) Baker, Dr. Heather Momyer (Anthony Costa), Stephanie (Robert) Phillips, Rachelle (Jason) Scott and Karri Momyer (David Warner); great-grandchildren, Emily (Nathan) Everly, Raymond Baker, Jasiah Jones, Anna Scott, Magdalena Jones, Alana Jones, Tyler Scott, Victoria Scott and Sarah Warner; special cousin, James Steadman of Canyon Lake, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Paul L. Backstrom on December 28, 2020; sister, Ruth Elaine Schoner; and brother, Charles Steadman Jr.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, private Funeral Services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
