John Praskavich, 93, of Rostraver Township, died at home with his family at his side on Friday, August 19, 2016. Born in Pricedale on May 3, 1923, he was the son of the late Wassil and Catherine (Yadlosky) Praskavich.
John was a pipefitter and was retired from Wheeling/Pittsburgh Steel Corporation. He was a member of Dawn Bible Students of West Newton and the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. John was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a great outdoorsman. He served in the US Army during World War II where he received three Medals for his service.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lorraine (Balko) Praskavich; son, John C. (Jamie) Praskavich of West Newton; daughters, Dorothy Eileen (James) Rogers of Forest, VA and Nancy Ann (Barry) Winkleblech of Monongahela; grandchildren, Jana (Joshua) Daly, Brian (Roxanne) Winkleblech, Jaclyn (Derek Nelson) Praskavich and John (Julia) Praskavich Jr.; great grandchildren, Claire Daly, Brandon Daly, Nikolai Praskavich and Klaudia Praskavich; sister; Doris Guth of Indiana.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam and seven siblings.
Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Elder George Balko officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in West Newton Cemetery.
