Martin F. Muzar

Martin F. Muzar, 79, of Monessen, passed away peacefully at home with his family beside him on Saturday, June 22, 2024 . Born in North Charleroi on April 30, 1945, he was the son of the late Frank and Anne (Gustin) Muzar.  

He was a 1963 graduate of Monessen High School where he studied in the Vo-Tech program. After graduation he joined the US Navy and honorably served his country in Vietnam from 1963-1967 where he was an Electricians Mate on the USS Barry (DD-933). When he returned, he worked for Steel Mills in Cleveland and then at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel in Allenport. In Cleveland he met and married his first wife, Barbara and settled down, before moving back to Monessen. 

He is a lifelong member of the Croation Fraternal Union and loved his Croatian culture of music and food. He was also known for his sense of humor…he would ask how to get a one armed man down from a tree?. . .wave at him! He liked to make up and sing songs, and he loved dogs, especially his Rottweilers. He loved good food and was always known to eat the leftovers. He loved to fish and hunt and had a strong work ethic that he instilled in his children. He truly loved his family and his country. 

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Sickles) Muzar; daughters, Michele (David) Barbacow of Washington and Robin (David) Rose of Eleanor, WV; step-sons, Wayne Brown of Perryopolis, Shawn (Lisa) Brown of Monongahela and Brian (Amber) Brown of Baldwin; grandchildren, Mason, Addison, Amelia, Logan, Camden, Shawna, Darren, Evie, Lainey and Ashton; numerous nieces and nephews including Arlene Karg and Susan Lane; as well as many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; daughter Anita; and sister Nancy Penich.  

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com where a Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Sandra E. Fitzgibbons officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park.
