Melvin Lewis Erler Sr.

Melvin Lewis Erler, Sr., 88, of Rostraver Township, died Wednesday, July 14, 2021. Born in Star Junction on July 17, 1932, he was the son of the late Michael and Margaret (Hart) Erler.
Melvin was a brakeman/conductor for the Union Railroad in Clairton for 33 years. He was a member of the Journey by Grace Church in Rostraver Township. His mother was widowed in 1936, and he began caring for her in 1950 until her death in 2001. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Melvin was a very caring and compassionate person, and he was a man that didnt swear!
He is survived by his wife, Constance (Protos) Erler with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage on April 26, 2021; children, Melanie (Richard) Scinto of Vail, Arizona, Colleen (Ken) Geary of Ruffs Dale, PA and Melvin Erler Jr. of Stow, Ohio; grandchildren, Stephen (Crista) Scinto, Richard (Janet) Scinto Jr., Matthew Scinto, Marina (Zach) Ruiz, Mark Scinto, Eric (Nicole) Sethman, Danielle (Sam) Bach and Brianna Erler; great grandchildren, Gavin Michael Scinto, Madeline Rose Scinto, Sophia Gloria Scinto and Cerina Rose Scinto; and brother, Ken (Peggy) Erler of Utah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Erma Mae Chew.
Visitation was held in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com Interment, with Military Honors, was held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA.
