Virgil G. Simonson, 90, of Donora, died Sunday, October 27, 2024. Born in Hayward, Wisconsin on May 6, 1934, he was the son of the late Melvin and Cynthia (Sanders) Simonson. 

Virgil was a member of Miracle Ridge Baptist Church of Elizabeth and retired as Maintenance Supervisor from Mon Valley Memorial Park in 1995. He was faithful to his church and the Lord His God, whom he accepted as Lord and Savior more than 50 years ago. He was devoted to his wife of 64 years, Mary, and his children and grandchildren. He was a sports fanatic, particularly loving the New York Yankees and the Green Bay Packers. Virgil loved to read and do crossword puzzles. He honorably served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956 serving on the USS John W. Weeks during the Korean Conflict and he also served in the US Air Force from 1959 to 1963.  

He is survived by his children, Donna (Herman) Glover of John's Island, South Carolina, Alan (Nancy) Hayden of Fayette City, Valerie (Kevin) Brown of Donora and Marlene Simonson of Donora; special daughter, Lori Cumer of Donora; grandchildren, Joseph (Olga) Glover, Amanda Glover, David (Emilie) Hayden, Daniel (Courtney) Hayden, Jonathan (Heather) Hayden, Timothy Hayden, Kristopher (Amanda) Brown and Brandyn Brown; special grandson, Scott Steuernagel; and 18 great grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jane (Stangroom) Simonson on August 22, 2024; grandson, Jordan Bell; great grandchildren, Kyle Glover and Elisabeth Hayden; brother, Roy Simonson; sisters, Mary Simonson, Muriel Simonson, Phyllis Hite, Cyntha Simonson and Lois Mathisen. 

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934) www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com  where a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. with her son, Pastor Alan R. Hayden, officiating. Interment, with Military Honors, will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park.
